Good City Group is an Urban Design group with professionals from a variety of fields dedicated to sustainable cities.

The Last Mile is a series of events organized by Good City Group to re-imagine the public transit experience through an investigation of the last leg of commute (between public transit stop to the commuter’s destination.)

The alley installation was the first public event of the series. It addresses the beginning of the last mile in Jefferson Park. The objective of this installation was to draw attention and introduce Good City Group to the local residents, as well as engage with their community.

The Last Mile of Jefferson Park

The beginning of the last mile of commute in Jefferson Park starts at the Jefferson Park Transit Center. Our project revolves around a mile radius from the station. We highlight the unique assets of the urban environment and broaden the local cultural organizations and businesses.

The alley installation kicks off a series of events including community workshops and guided historical walks.

Site Environment of The Alley

Located right across the main exit of the transit station, The alley way is an under-maintained yet frequently used passageway and short cut for the daily commuter.

Due to the specific constraint, there were very few opportunities for large scale physical installation to create a sizable attraction.

The Alley Experience

With limited buildable footprint, our design explores the airspace above, and the ground space below.
